Gender equality
Although equality is understood broadly today, gender equality remains a relevant topic in Norway, where gender disparities continue to shape many aspects of society. For example, statistics show that women remain underrepresented in leadership positions, while men are overrepresented in suicide statistics and at risk of school dropout.
At KUN Centre for Equality and Diversity, we work with an inclusive concept of equality that encompasses all grounds of discrimination while acknowledging that gender remains a central factor in this effort.
Men in the Gender Equality Debate
Discussions about men’s roles in gender equality often lack sufficient research, outreach, and project work focusing on their specific challenges and needs. The debate is frequently polarized, leaning toward extremes. We aim to fill that gap by developing and sharing intersectional insights with a focus on gender equality.
Our Initiatives
Our projects explore topics across gender and related themes, including belonging and inclusion, mental health, youth education and development, and minority issues. This is one of our largest areas of expertise, where we offer thematic events, such as conferences, courses, and awareness days like celebration of the International Men’s Day, materials on cyberviolence prevention, designed for children, youth, parents, and educators. We also conduct research activities such as the "New Masculinities in the North" project.
Collaboration and Partnerships
KUN collaborates with various knowledge actors, voluntary organizations, and municipalities at local, national, and international levels. Our partners include organizations like Mental Helse Ungdom, KFUK/KFUM, Østfold University College, OsloMet, and Steinkjer Municipality. Through joint projects and research, we build competence and develop measures that promote equality across genders and social groups.
Feel free to contact us if you are interested in collaborating or would like to suggest relevant issues for us to address.
